We make an average of 35,000 decisions everyday. The brain likes to take shortcuts to save energy so most of our decisions are made automatically, without thinking.

But when it comes to the big, important decisions, wouldn’t it be awesome if you could know that the decisions you made were actually leading you to where you want to go? How good would it feel to actually trust yourself?

Have you ever seen a decision tree? One of those documents that shows, if option A is picked, that then results in these further options opening up. If option B is picked, then a whole different set of options opens up.

Much like a decision tree, each decision that we make leads us down a path. How we make decisions matters. Where we source our decisions from matters.

We are taught to make decisions based on logic and rationale. Told to weigh the pros and cons in order to make the most reasonable decision.

Or, on the flip side, we make decisions based solely off of whatever emotion we are experiencing in the moment. We decide to do something because we feel like it and don’t take into account any rationale.

From time to time we may even outsource our decision making completely by way of a public opinion poll.

All of these options leave us second guessing ourselves, wondering how things would have turned out had we chosen differently.

There is a better option. One that is completely aligned with who you are and how you operate. Your human design points you to your unique decision making process. This is called your Authority.

Human Design is the science of differentiation, showing you how you are unique in our energetic makeup. Your uniqueness is your superpower. The way you experience life, perceive and process information, and what you learn from any given situation will be completely unique to you.

We are here to live into our uniqueness in order to share our perspectives and skills with one another in community.

Your Human Design Authority is based on which energy centers you specifically have defined. There are 9 energy centers, which correspond to chakras within your body.

  1. Head/Crown – pressure to make meaning
  1. Ajna/Mind – mental awareness, thinking, sharing ideas
  1. Throat – expression, manifestation through word and deed
  1. Heart – ego, willpower, wishes
  1. G/Self – identity, love, connection, inner guidance system
  1. Emotion/Solar Plexus – spirit awareness, feeling emotions
  1. Spleen – body awareness, primal instincts
  1. Sacral – life force energy, creativity, sexuality
  1. Root – pressure to perform

The centers you have defined determine what kind of energy you have available to you on a consistent basis and therefore, what parts of yourself you can rely on at all times. The centers you have open act as receiving dishes taking in and amplifying the energies around you.

The 7 Authorities

Emotional – if you have your emotion center defined, you have emotional authority. Because emotions color our world so profoundly, you must be in a place of emotional clarity before making a commitment. Never make decisions from an emotional high or low. You don’t have enough information to really know what you are committing to. Sleep on it. Give yourself time to take in all of the information and for your emotions to calm before deciding.

Sacral – if you have your sacral center defined and not your emotion center, you have sacral authority. This is a gut response that is communicating to you through physical sensations that you feel in your gut.

Splenic – if you have your spleen center defined and not your emotion center or your sacral center, you have splenic authority. This is sensed as an intuitive hit in the moment, it does not repeat itself so when the moment passes, so does the hit. This is the fastest decision making process of them all and requires you to be tuned into your senses and trust. No room for second guessing or you’ll miss it.

Ego – if you have your heart center defined and not your emotion, sacral or splenic center, you have ego authority. This will either be ego manifested or ego projected depending on whether your heart center is connected to your throat center or your self center through a channel.

Ego manifested authority is about articulation. You must listen to what you say in order to hear your truth. Your voice leads you through your life.

Ego projected authority is about what you have the will to do. When you get invited into doing something, you have to ask yourself “what do i want?” “what’s in it for me?”

Self-projected – if you have your self/G and throat center defined only, you have self-projected authority. The key with this authority is to listen to what you say. Your truth is always expressed through the core of your identity

Environment – if you have your Head/Crown, Mind/Ajna, and/or Throat center defined only, you have environment authority. You will receive guidance from sensory information in your environment through your open centers. Location is key for you to make the right connections that will lead to the right opportunities. You must feel into the energy of the environment.

Lunar – if you have no centers defined, you are a Reflector with lunar authority. Because you have no consistent energy available to you that you can reliably count on, your decision making process requires patience. Moving through a full lunar cycle will give you access to all of the energies. While you move through the lunar cycle you do your due diligence and research and at the end of the cycle you arrive at an inner knowing.
